Our Webzine is thrilled to present to our online readers the sensational Pop sounds of Dorine Levy. She is making music that captures the artist’s heart and soul that fans will find most appealing. In this recent spotlight with us, the indie Pop singer tells her story. Here is what formulated.
Isaac: I just listened to one of your songs from your CD. What was the inspiration for making your new album?
Dorine: Well, I took this one a bit different than My EP; Here I'm producing musically myself with the band. It's a different approach and a different kind of engagement. I'm in the process of every note played in it and every decision, I'm learning so much, and it's great... It's a very creative process.
Isaac: Who were your influences?
Dorine: I'm an influenced kind of girl; I hear something I like and immediately take the guitar and write something influenced by it. I listen to Pj a lot lately, Radiohead since always, I was introduced to MIA recently and love it, And Now I'm going back to my Nirvana's CDs…
Isaac: What do you consider to have been the highlight(s) and lowpoint(s) of your career to date?
Dorine: Well, I can get exited from everything that happens when someone buys my CD; it's great. A great show, a new song…ECT…
I use to see things as highlights and low points but now I understand that it's only waves…
But I was nominated to best international act at the Australian Music Oz Awards as Top 5 Best international act... …so that was nice…
And Low points, well naturally I feel them now and then, but not so much anymore. I’m having more and more fun…Not only music wise.

Isaac: Brief history about your background plus the style of music you play.
Dorine: I grew up in Montreal as a child and came back to live in Israel when I was 14, I started to play guitar as a teenager…but didn't keep it up. As I recruited to the military service 4 years later, I met a friend who had a home studio. There we wrote a song called La mort, the first single of a compilation called Nine Beach that sold really well. So there my romance with music started, after the military service I went to a music college. I started to write songs and formed my first band. A year Later, I recorded my EP Produced by Adam Gorlizki and Now, I’m Producing My first Album, Basically at home in my studio. I love every moment of it. It's going to be a pop album but a bit of an alternative sound to it. That wasn't brief, uh?...
Isaac: How easy is it to gets gigs for you as an artist? What is the live music scene like in your area?
Dorine: It depends on the venues and the booking person there, sometimes it can be really easy as sending an email and they come back to you immediately with dates and others it can take lots of unanswered calls and emails but usually it's not difficult. They are Lot's of small venues here in Tel Aviv and lots of bands and artists, some really great.
Isaac: What do you think of the state of Indie music at the moment? Do you listen to radio much at all? Has the Internet helped music grow or hindered it in your opinion?
Dorine: I think the indie scene is great and growing at the moment.
As an Indie artist, yes sometimes it can be more challenging, as I'm not only the writer and the performer but, the manager , Booking person and lot's more …but it pushes me to be more creative and really stand behind what I'm doing. I don't really listen to the radio, well sometime when I'm driving because my Cd player is broken at the moment. I still buy CDs…a bit primitive uh? But, I like to hear a song at is best quality and always first thing read the Credits at the end of the booklets.
Artistically, the Internet made music grow, because we are more exposed to lots of genre of music. If I want to hear a song I just Google it, so that's great but business wise...I'm not sure. I suppose with all the free downloads. It doesn't help the music industry.
Isaac: If you could create a fantasy band - what would be the line-up and why?
vWell first of all, I'm very lucky, I have the greatest band ever, They are recording with me , my new album, Amazing players and wonderful to work with. I don't think, I would want to change it but. Yes we want to develop our sounds and add some electronics and programming loops to our live shows.
Isaac: What CD's do you currently have available and where can they be purchased from?
Dorine: Well, my EP is available on the Internet; you can buy it on my site www.dorinelevy.com
Or download it on iTunes, Napster or every online music store out there.
Isaac: Where can fans access your music, videos, blogs, and anything else about you online?
Dorine: Well, on my site: www.dorinelevy.com and of course MySpace and Facebook pages.
Isaac: Message to your fans?
Dorine: Take a walk on the wild side?
